The Girl in Blue PG Wodehouse Books

Late Wodehouse, and the plot will be familiar to faithful readers, but I still loved reading it. Wodehouse's writing, as usual, is crisp, light, clever, and funny.

The Girl in Blue PG Wodehouse Books Reviews

A dutiful cast of characters, each one cut from a unique cloth, contribute to this delightful story told through omniscient narration and lively dialogue. Wodehouse keeps the intrigue going through the plot of a marriage proposal and the sticky fingers of one desirable and robust lady. Stepping out of one marriage proposal and looking for the next, Gerald Godfrey Franklin West discovers the multilayered personality of one he really felt he had a connection with. But will he be able to see past the small flaw of theft?

The grounds of Mellingham Hall Willoughby weaves the precise amount of conflict and tension for every page. The story moves along flawlessly, as each action is motivated by the intention of Wodehouse's well-planned cast of characters. A great balance of predictability and surprise creates the perfect page-turning piece.

Told with a touch of British humor, this story comes highly recommended for anybody looking to laugh-out-loud with glee.
Having previously concentrated my Wodehouse reading in what were considered his "peak" years (probably the 1930's), I was always a little weary of sampling anything from his later works because the fear was always there that his writing may have lost its fizz later in life. Recently finding this in The Strand bookstore in New York I decided to give it a go. I needn't have worried - this is quite possibly one of the funniest books I've ever read.

It's hard to believe that Plum was almost 90 years old when he wrote The Girl In Blue. The prose is exquisite and the wit razor sharp. This is the work of a man so utterly at ease with the tools of his trade that the genius just comes out effortlessly. Every sentence is an expertly crafted masterpiece and it's no exaggeration to say that virtually every one is funny. I read this on the bus and the subway and chuckled audibly through the whole thing.

Don't listen to any of the misery guts who claim that this pales in comparison with his earlier works. If it did, I would not hesitate to say so. Wodehouse, like almost every other comic genius, wrote a couple of stinkers. Prior to this, I read "Laughing Gas" and found it severely lacking compared to his Jeeves & Wooster and Blandings Castle books. The Girl In Blue is every bit as good as them, if not better. There's always at least one Wodehouse reviewer who complains that he recycles his plots, characters and phrases. Hello - that's part of the charm of Wodehouse.

If you've beaten his earlier works to death and wish there was something as funny to read for the first time, don't even think about ordering this. Just do it. It's a work of comic art.
Delightful story, surprising humor and development, arrived in good condition.
Like everything P. G. Wodehouse wrote, this book is hysterically funny. What else is there to say?
The comic genius of Wodehouse never ceases to amaze me.
Hilarious! Another funny fun book by Wodehouse! Typical confusion and misunderstandings. Funny and just as much fun as his other books. This one features some confusion over a miniature who everyone thinks was stolen by a rich American kleptomaniac. Of course as always everything works out perfectly in the end.
Loved this Wodehouse in particular! It had me laughing out loud at a couple of points, and when you are listening to an audio book, driving down the road, laughing to yourself you know it's a good one.
Late Wodehouse, and the plot will be familiar to faithful readers, but I still loved reading it. Wodehouse's writing, as usual, is crisp, light, clever, and funny.
