I loved this book and I love these two heroines! Many similarities to Trixie and Honey. They even find a diamond ring in a tumbledown cottage. There are horses and a lake and woods and trails...The modern twist in this story is the role that race plays. Bee is African American and her father bought the plantation where their ancestors had been owned as slaves. And the family that owned them was Abby’s. So they have the same last name since slaves took the last names of the families that freed them. So they agree that they are kind of family. By the end they are definitely family.

Abby decides to clear her father’s name. He’s a lawyer that was tried by public opinion and lays in a coma from a blow to the head. He doesn’t wake up in this one, but I’m sure he will. Abby and Bee solve the mystery and help an old neighbor get back property that was legally hers just like Trixie and Honey would do.

My only complaint was that all the ends were tied up in summary pages at the end. Still, I loved it and I can’t wait to read the next one.

This was a delight! I highly recommend -) Keeps you engaged the entire time ...This author is teaching much about ethics and kindness/ the world.
My 12 year old daughter loved this book as well as the author's other book. Highly recommended by her!
I found it very easy to get lost in the intricacies of this mystery actually written for young people. There were times I was outraged, tearful, as well as frightened for the heroine and her new best friend Bee. The story was fast-paced and held my interest throughout. Congratulations to John Thompson on another great book.
My 4th grade students loved the book. I did it as a read aloud and it sparked many predictions and discussions, even at recess. We are currently reading the next book.
I am 51 yrs. old and I absolutely adored this book! I loved it so much that I had a copy sent to my 71 yr old aunt. She loved it too!!! It's simply lovely! It has all of the elements of a great book with excellent writing.
The mystery was pure adventure from beginning to end! Would love to read more Felony Bay Mysteries. We have read this book over a long course of time in sections, but never forgot the last thing that happened every time we started reading again. The story was exciting, intriging, and completely fantastic.
Abbey Force is the Nancy Drew of the S. Carolina low country. When the story begins, she has had a terrible year -- her father's in a coma and framed for a serious crime; her family's Reward Plantation had to be sold to pay back his debts; she's had to live with her father's ne-er do well brother; and there's mysterious digging and No Trespass signs by Felony Bay. Her first priority is to clear her father's name. With the help of the daughter of Reward Plantation's new owner (the two become best friends), Abbey hopes to solve the mystery at Felony Bay. She's a wonderful force of nature, who refuses to give up even when things look hopeless. We can all learn from Abbey's resiliency. Highly recommend.
